8 guys rolling through 500 miles of forest roads, two track, and pavement. Took some detours to Wayah Bald, Buck Bald, and Tail of the Dragon. After multiple times on the route it never disappoints. It's an east coast staple! It was extremely dry conditions, so a lot of water crossings were very low. We started out of Fireside Outpost, with a stop in Dahlonega, GA and Andrews, NC.

I think you might have some luck with the algorithm if you put the name of the bike youre riding in the video title! I noticed even tiny channels that do that seem to get a big boost in views :)
sick video bro! my 701 has been on point thanks to that spring you sent me! a little over 200 miles in 130 of it was in =90 degrees so i feel good about it :D I got a channel for this brand im starting ima put the repair up on i dont have a drone though man those are some sick shots!
Glad the bike is back together and running well! Mine is at about 1500 miles after, and strong as ever. Just put it up for sale!
@@AdvTechMoto haha i dont blame you! i've been thinking about doing the same after this mess xD im just too nervous riding now. I miss my slow and reliable DRZ. Might grab an adventure bike with a bigger tank after this
After 2 trips, I actually wouldn't mind keeping the 701, but want to get the new cfmoto 450 for channel content
@@AdvTechMoto ohhhh snap from adventure to street bike that will be sick dude looking forward to it!
@Merc399 it's the 450mt that isn't in the US yet, so it's their new adventure bike. What the ktm 490 adventure was supposed to be until they canceled it!
Great drone work as always ....well done!!!
Very nice Matt. Though I could live without the drone footage. I live in the tallest part of my East Tennessee county, so I am looking down at the trees when I walk out the door. 😎 - Frank
Drone footage is sometimes the best part!
Does the brand of your rally tower make them for a honda 300L?
Yes, www.britanniacomposites.com/lynx-r-dual-sport-fairing-honda-crf-300-l/
Just watched your RUclips video looking for the route in your XT2, you didn’t select it, that’s why it wasn’t showing.
Drone work is great...nice job
Is it a special OBD device ?
I use this one amzn.to/4eyQbU9
nice content, is dmd2 for motorcycle, i plan to get one for my 4x4 truck and somewhere there is no handphone signal, unlike garmin they using gps signal, how about dmd2 has anyone install in their vehicle, please advice. thanks
I don't see why it couldn't be used for overlanding, etc. External antenna option for the 865 tablet too, but no personally experience on my end there.
Dude I had this exact problem occur 2 months ago. I got lucky and the weight spring and screw shot straight out of my engine with no metal falling into the engine. I just need a spring and a screw that's it!! Could I buy them off you?? Dude if i gotta buy the busted cam off oyu i will xD
Yep, no problem, I can send you a spring. Shoot me an email. advtechmototn@gmail.com
@@AdvTechMoto too thank you so much bouta send you an email
I have the new Zumo XT2. I have also tried using the Garmin TREAD APP on my iPhone and found it to be about as useful as tits on a bull ... ! The way I create my Routes, Tracks and Way Points on a Windows PC, is I first plan the route/track and all the way stops on "Gaia GPX Maps". When I have finished planning the route etc. I save the info as a GPX file. I then open up "Garmin Base Camp" I then import the previously saved GPX file from Gaia into Base Camp. In Base Camp I create a separate "list file" for the way points and another "list file for the actual route. The GPX track file from the "Gaia GPX Maps" needs to be converted to a route in Base Camp. I can then export everything from the PC to the XT2 via USB cable. I first import the route by itself and then I import all the Waypoints as a separate collection. It's a bit of a steep learning curve, but once you get used to it it's fairly straight forward and reliable way to get the route you want including Tracks and Way Points into the ZumoXT2. "Brent Pearson" on RUclips has a great play list that explains it much better than I have. The playlist is called "Mapping and Route Planning for Adventure Bike Riders" At the time the playlist was done, it was only to do with the original XT and not the XT2, but the bulk of the info and instructions also work for the XT2. Garmin Base Camp will say that the ZUMO XT2 is not fully supported in Base Camp. Just ignore the warning a skip past it. It will still transfer everything just fine to the XT2. I also can have a fully functioning back up of everything on my iPhone using the App for Gaia GPX maps.
Have you tried to use Osmand with the tablet? How does it run?
Very briefly to see how the dmd remote worked with it, but not enough to give a good opinion to be honest
I just found your channel. I just ordered a T865 to use on next year's Scooter Cannonball. I will likely be the only person not running a Garmin product or phone which means I'll be on my own for troubleshooting. I have one year to know this thing inside and out.
I think you will love it. Depending on your tech ability, you can pick it up pretty quick. Especially if you already are used to android.
@@AdvTechMoto I was an android guy up until last year and am familiar with it. I am over Garmin's slow and inflexible UI. As long as it can get me to the checkpoints, I should be fine. Aside from some direct satellite data that Garmin get's, I don't see many downsides. We'll surely find out soon enough.
Great video!!!
That's a whole lot of steps to get something into the Garmin. DMD2 just lets you email it to yourself, download and open on the tablet.
Quick note to add, in Garmin for POI click on the map then click the flag to add a POI
Can u explain why husky didn’t cover it. It’s a recall they’ve covered on many bikes.
This is what Husqvarna wrote to me: Unfortunately, Husqvarna does not proceed with any warranty or goodwill in this manner. The procedure would be to have it inspected by the dealer and have them report the failure to Husqvarna Technical Services for reviewal. Once Husqvarna has reviewed the diagnostic report, a determination will be made as for how to proceed. If the concern is deemed warrantable, all repairs would be performed with Original Husqvarna spare parts. Goodwill assistance is always determined on a case-by-case basis. However, given the parameters of this situation, your unit being years outside of the warranty period, it is unlikely that Husqvarna will provide any assistance for this concern.
Yeah warranty period is the warranty period....
Yep, I think they should have done a second recall personally, but wasn't worth my time to fight it.
Also, to add, the recall had been performed when new, so this was a failure of the recall early on, which makes me believe the original recall was not adequate, which I tried to fight.
They tried to weasel out of replacing my radiator when the mounting failed causing a leak (known issue with these bikes) and the bike was still under warranty... so don't expect goodwill from KTM. As much as I like the bike design I'd not recommend KTM... combination of poor reliability (worst of the first tier vendors worldwide) and poor support. I really like the 690sm but I'd get the Ducati over the KTM, very similar performance spec's and I've gotten MUCH MUCH better support from Ducati for my bikes than I've gotten from KTM.
Thanks for video, I have Silverfox H1 controller and it was good to see what I can do with remote 🫡 everything is not so intuitive right away
Yes, not intuitiverl right off. I'm still getting used to it as I haven't used it enough yet to always know exactly what button does what all the time or navigating through the program.
What if I want to make a rollchart of my route?
You can generate a cuesheet, but rollchart is a different story. For the cuesheet in the planner, you can click on settings and automatically generate cuesheet.
2k miles in after fix...will do a follow up video soon!
Dude if there is ANY chance I could buy the decompression return spring off you off the old camshaft if really appreciate it! It's the one thing that doesn't come in the repair kit and I can't find the spring anywhere online :(
Dude.. literally happened to me yesterday on my 21 690 SMC R with only 7,300 miles on it.. da hell is going on?? Why is this common, it literally blows out the side of the valve cover and KTM/Husky/GasGas wont do anything about this?? Insane..
Yep, pretty crazy. I'll have about 2k miles on mine since I replaced the cam. Pretty much new valve cover, new camshaft assembly, clean out shavings, and multiple oil changes to flush out remaining junk. Let me know if you have questions, but a 21 having the issue is interesting....
@@AdvTechMoto I brought it back to the dealer that just completed the 6k valve service thinking this would coincide but have never seen this issue until it happened to me. I have only put 1,300 miles on the bike since the servicing.. Absolutely crazy how it just blows out the side of the cover.. But I have so many questions around this haha I'm more concerned about my confidence in the motor/bike after this. Did Husky ever get back to you and help you out with a warranty/claim?
@LifeWellRidden I reached out multiple times to Husky without any help from them. They said take it to a dealer for diagnosis, and we may do something then, but I wasn't going to take the chance of Husky not covering it. I wonder if there were signs of markings on the valve cover when they did the valve check and they just didn't notice either. All my shavings were isolated to the stator side. I'm about to do another oil change to see if all the shavings are gone.
@@AdvTechMoto Well I guess the dealer situation will help my case but I'm sure they will try and shove a $2k+ bill my way if KTM doesn't want to jump in.. I guess the big question too is if this was addressed on the 2018 models and even recalled, how could it continue after almost 3 years? Wondering how that all works out..
@LifeWellRidden Yeah if no recall for your bike I'd almost be curious if your bike somehow ended up with an older cam....who knows
I've been using Gaia for a long time. But I'll give this one a try. Looks nice and simple. Have you used the app to navigate while riding?
I have used it before to navigate, more so on the cycling side, but it usually worked well for me with prompts for turns.
Would really like to see a comparison with the Garmin XT/XT2 and DMD2 software [Basecamp is a nightmare]
I don't touch Basecamp. I've always used ridewithgps for cycling and kept using it for gpx creation. DMD has a basic gpx creator on their website, but has plans to make it better I believe.
@@AdvTechMoto I have a Garmin 276C that I've been using for 18 years on my motorcycles while creating routes in Mapsource, nothing could be simpler. Also have a Garmin XT and can't figure out what Garmin was thinking with Basecamp that I'm not happy with.....I tried DMD2 on a tablet, but the tablet is not bright enough. I like DMD2 and I'm looking into either the phone or tablet
30 minutes on hardware and part two for the interface?
Yeah, may end up being 3 parts depending on how I break up the inferfaces
Yep, been using DMD and DMD2 for almost five years now. Nothing better out there.
I feel left out.
That looks pretty low
Nice job!

Thirty eight minutes! Where is my popcorn and soda! 😳🤣😁😉 - Frank
Haha....yeah a bit long! That's what happen when you ramble in the woods on your own without a script
The battery on the helmet doesn't get too hot?
No issues yet!
Thanks for this video, the issue of charging on the road is something I’m also trying to solve. With a expanding arsenal of gear it is getting harder and harder 😅. The backup solution I’m going to look in to for the next longer trip. Have a good one! Greets from the Netherlands
Dude thanks! Damn near ripped this thing off completely 😅
Gryphon looks pretty nice, I just bought a Klim induction pro, checking out reviews. Well done
I think things have changed in the 4 months since this helpful video was published. ADV-TIM (US Distributor) now offers the tablet with the locking, charging holder included for $649. The device is now an updated Gen 3 version at the time of my comment.
Would have much preferred engine noise.
Well thanks Matt. You have reminded me that I have tons of 360 SM500 footage and used none of it! - Frank
Dude, no way! You can really get some unique footage with them.
Seems like I have a fueling dongle that competes for the connector. Any ideas?
fueldongle.es/en/collections/cables-diagnosis/products/cable-obd2-hk-8
Not sure I’d call it a takeover… the Hooligans on European bikes had that covered! But, I will say, the Harley’s outweighed those Orange and Red European’s by a 3:1 ratio. Couldn’t go all the same places, but gravel roads are cool 😎
Hey Matt. Been using this to cruise around, plot courses to get to gpx starting points, dropping pins etc. yesterday for the first time I needed to “type in an address” and navigate to…can’t find that feature. Do you know if it exists?
Offline, you can only search POI and saved locations. I guess I've never noticed since I run a sim card in mine, but I think they have it on the list.
@@AdvTechMoto lol…good deal. I’d say that’s about as basic of a feature as it comes 😂. Thank you
You can search the POI Google data base too offline
@@AdvTechMoto no biggie, I just used another app
Have you received parts yet? I’m going to do mine as soon as I see how yours goes.
Yep, just finished it last week and put about 250 miles on it this weekend
@@AdvTechMoto Thanks, question, if you have time. Other than head cover gasket all you needed was the newer cam with screws and the newer cam chain tensioner? Or is there more pieces needed? Mines a 2017 I’m not sure what year cam and tensioner to get. Any idea where I can look for compatibility info? Or would you happen to know?
I looked and the diagrams are showing the 2017 has a different cam assembly than the 2018+. Checked rockymtn and motosport. The cam chain tensioner looks to be the same though, which I used the new part number from the 2019+. Otherwise all you really need is a valve cover gasket and cam. I did the tensioner just because I had to remove it anyway.
@@AdvTechMoto thanks, appreciate you looking. Just finished a 2100 mile round trip to Maine on this from nj, mostly off road dirt road to do the ne bdr. Need to make sure it’s good for the next trip.
Did it have a failure? 2018 seems to be really the only year with known issues from what I can see, and has an actual recall.
I saw a video from an Italian (I think) guy who builds rally bikes and he recommends changing the light switch to the FE/EXC switch to make space. ruclips.net/video/kFu-XwVD8jQ/видео.htmlsi=lSYIPgeeTJmxRQg2&t=518
Would rather hear engine noise. Just me?
